We are all guilty of playing a video game and unable to peel ourselves away have took a second to glance at the clock only to discover that for the last four hours you have been helping Lara scale walls, annihilate zombies and crypt monsters, defeat baddies, fire countless bullets at ferocious animals and solve bonkers puzzles.

It would be an understatement to say that video games have become amazingly addictive and immersive, dragging you into the gameplay and giving you a “feel as though you are there” experience.

Completely compelling we know how the hours can totally disappear when settling into a game, becoming almost obsessed with reaching a particular goal. There are obviously some terrific games available at the moment, with many still reeling from the huge success of the spectacular Call of Duty – Modern Warfare 2.

This and many other games are attributed to providing the massive following that is spreading the country providing a realistic and entertaining look into new, exiting ways in which to escape from reality, even just for a little while…

If there’s a certain actor you like, take Rob Lowe for example, you can find his entire career online and find everything he’s going to be in for the next six months.

Social networking sites are also increasingly becoming popular as a way of finding interesting programmes or ones that have favourite actors in.

For those scared of technology, there’s always word of mouth. Asking your friends who watch a lot of TV can yield lots of interesting leads, just be careful that your friends taste can be trusted!

With the rise of technology and the constant release of new video consoles it is a worry for most parents that their children are no longer running around outside playing with their friends, instead they are staying indoors sitting playing new games on their own or with a friend. There is a huge worry that children are not exercising enough or spending time outside. However, with the introduction of games such as the Nintendo Wii, children and adults alike are now exercising and playing at the same time. Exercising is now entertaining, many don’t even release they are exercising.

There are a multitude of different and diverse ideas in entertainment that apply to everyone. In my eyes what I class as a means of entertainment can be totally different to the next man. With the age of technology such as games machines, digital television, computers and other forms of entertainment everyone has a different idea of entertainment. Some of us like to watch sports such as football and find that very entertaining but you will find that does not apply to us all. But by far the most important item we all class as a means of entertainment has to be the television with almost every household having one or more televisions.

How entertainment has changed:

Over the last hundred years the development in technology has moved in leaps and bounds. The age of the computer, digital television and other products aimed at providing us entertainment has developed so fast that it seems a million years ago when we had never even heard of a television. In regards to entertainment our grand fathers had a some what different idea of entertainment to what we now class as entertainment. Even though technology has developed we still have not moved on from sport as entertainment if anything sport through coverage of the media and television has become more popular as an entertainment than ever before. So in reality even though technology has moved on we still regard certain entertainment as important as it was a hundred years ago.

Entertainment is activity that we do to relax us.
